An Army of One

The past several days have been up and down for me. I am still struggling with severe joint pain. The RSD has also flared up a little. Enough about me.
My wife and I are now proud parents of a future United States Army Soldier. Today, Corbin signed a letter of intent with the Army. The process is actually interesting.
Based on the Army test scores that my son has, he qualified for several positions, ranging from Army intelligence to Medic. Corbin's first choice was available. He has chosen to train and operate a M1 Abram Tank. He will be part of a 4-man team. His duties will include ordinance preparation, Ordinance detonation/firing, and piloting the M1 Abram Tank.

He has wanted to do this for the past few years. Therefore, this was not a sudden decision. He has enlisted for 3-years, will train at Fort Knox beginning June 30, 2010. The Army has a lot of financial incentives to enlist, including signing bonuses, good starting salary and benefits. Actually, over the next year, Corbin can earn higher rank by performing certain Army requirements. This way, when he reports in June 2010, he will already be recognized as being higher ranked, in addition to earning a pay increase from the start. Once his term is up, the Army will pay up to $47,000.00 in college or trade school tuition or they will re-negotiate his contract, potentially leading to a career in the Army.
He was not prompted or influenced to enlist. This was his decision. Karen and I very proud of our son. Not only because he is our son, but because he will be serving our nation. He is a intelligent strong individual. He will succeed in this new endeavor. I thank the good lord every day for my family. I may not have my health, but I sure do have a loving family.
As far as the race team is concerned, Corbin / Dean Racing "Team RSD" will continue to operate. Corbin will still drive this year. It has yet to be determined who will drive during my son's leave of absence.
Have a good weekend.

A TRUE FRIEND
After being up almost 24 hours Donnie, "Team RSD's" Chief Mechanic came over this morning to install the Line Lock System in the Mustang. The line lock allows the front brakes to work and not the rear so that a burn out can be done in the wet box. The purpose of a burnout is to clean the bottom of the tires. In addition, heat the tires to increase traction.Donnie is a full-time truck mechanic and came straight from work to ensure that the line lock was installed safely in the car. He is an excellent mechanic as well as a true friend.

RACE EQUIPMENT PREPARATATION TIME

This weekend is consisting of me sitting down with my Father-In Law / "TEAM RSD" Chaplain Leo and delegating tasks that need to be done on both the motor home and race trailer before our first race in June. Corbin, Bridget and my wife Karen have been working hard cleaning, painting, servicing generators, and applying new graphics. Having a race team is hard work. I have always taken pride in ensuring that all my equipment is well maintained. A lot of money has been invested in Corbin / Dean Racing and I hope to someday pass it on to my son. Enjoy the photo attached. Have a good weekend.Thursday, May 28, 2009
Crunch Time

As usual it is crunch time to get the "Team RSD" Mustang ready for it's first race of the Season. On top of that Corbin has no "Seat Time" in the car. The powerglide transmission installation still has to be done, as well as the wiring of the cars components. Corbin and Bridget have a lot ahead of them this weekend.
My friend Aaron of fast forward racing had a track incident this passed weekend. While competing the "Team RSD" Trans Am did a full vertical wheel stand and slammed down hard breaking the suspension and oil pan. Aaron was not hurt badly, but did feel it the next morning. Any way last weekend turned out to be a very expensive weekend for my friend. Win some, and you loose some. I am glad he was not seriously hurt.
I will keep you posted on our progress...have a good weekend.
